Instant playback

Back to virtual reality, my favourite subject. You see an interesting person in the city centre and are wondering what is his/her story. Whatif you could there on-the-fly check a synopsis (via mobile phone/video glasses) made by her to answer that question.
Or you see someone sleeping in the metro station and are wondering if he is ok or fainted or something. Whatif you could check the surveillance camera videos right there on the spot to see whether something nasty has happened to him.
It's similar to the time shift functionality in the digital recording apparatus. in 5 to 10 years we can't comprehend how we survived without those in the past. (I could use that kind of a fast rewind sometimes to find out where I left my keys etc.).
Lonely rider
Todella asiallista.

Quick statistics recorded while waiting for a bus in the morning: only 1% of the cars had more than one passenger. Totally insane, there should be a law to forbid that (although I acknowledge all the impracticalities involved in a solution of that kind.

Write it down, now!

As it is said in the name of this blog, it is imperative to write down new ideas when they're still fresh. I already forgot this post once, fortunately had the same good(?) idea twice. Keep those notebooks and/or communicators ready.

Puhelimessa

There was a story in a Finnish tabloid (IL, 21st April) about an uncultured finnish culture minister who even didn't own a bookshelf(this was an opinion of a reader). If it were so easy to become cultured by buying a bookshelf. I don't find any reason to store books in a shelf once you have read them. It's very rare (at least for me) to start reading a book for a second time (not counting cook books). So there is no point keep the books in the best place in your living room gathering dust. Unless you want give a intelligent impression of yourself. The situation is different if you store unread books in your bookshelf.

Smile! It's not 'just work'.

been thinkin that it is really important to maintain a positive attitude when working in r&d. progress can be gradual and slow. and in the end of the day, progress is exactly what keeps the good ole engine going. so i've been keeping score of days/moments when i've been extraordinarily happy with my job. i found out, that a too long time since last marking led to negative feelings and decreased work efficiency. creative work is tricky business and suprising things influence on it. i had set the triggering level for the marking in such way that a new marking emerged in 3-4weeks on average. sounds not very often but that does the job.

Sudokua
